Improving Brain Function So a Child (or Adult) Can Realize Their True Potential!
If Kids Are Too Hyper This Summer…
ADD Could Be The Reason.
How To Identify And Improve Symptoms
Sustained Hyperactivity could signal a misfire in the brain. This is common in children and some adults, and often what leads some doctors to diagnose ADD. The reason is because the brain is processing things too fast and beta brainwaves are in overdrive. Beta waves are one of four primary brainwaves in every person, and are responsible for conscious thought and decision making. But when the brain is processing too fast, it can often lead to hyperactivity, impulsivity and outbursts. Therefore it’s important to determine if kids are just being kids or if there is a bigger problem involved.
If we know that ADD is a brain problem, then we should also know that medications will not fix the issue. Drugs like Adderall or Ritalin can temporarily help reduce overstimulation, but after a few hours the child will be hyper again. As a parent, one should be looking at a more permanent solution, one without any side effects.
Our clinic has tools to identify and address those who may have ADD.
Identify ADD With A QEEG Brain Map
A QEEG Brain Map is a noninvasive tool that can scan the surface of the brain and determine if there is a misfire in the beta brainwaves. Your child wears a small cap on their head while the computer scans the surface of the brain to capture a snapshot of brain activity. The data is uploaded to a global database to determine what issues may be present. The database will produce a comprehensive report of findings that show the areas of the brain that are out of balance and also what protocols can be used to address the issues.
Address Issues With Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is the primary tool we use for addressing ADD that may offer a permanent solution. This computer based system can can target the beta brainwaves that are misfiring and help normalize them. During a session, the patient will watch a movie while the computer does all the work in the background. This process can have many benefits: Less hyper, more focused, more organized and many others.
The therapy that is provided at this facility has three main goals:
- Restore Healthy Brain Wave Activity
- Address underlying nutritional imbalances
- Strengthen weak brain lobe function
The process is noninvasive, safe, painless and has decades of research and case studies to prove it’s effectiveness. It also works for adults as well in improving many other symptoms like anxiety and depression.
As a matter of fact in a 2012 report, the American Association of Pediatrics recognized neurofeedback as a Level 1 (Best Support Intervention).
neurofeedback is like exercise for the brain. Over time a stronger more balanced brain is reflected in more socially appropriate behavior and capacity to stay on task. Studies show that neurofeedback training benefits can last 30 years or longer and may even increase IQ by 10-12 points.
The length of the care program needed varies from person to person and can only be determined after a detailed brain map and neurologic exam.
We accept children as young as 5 years old. We do work with adults that have ADHD as well.
